Most people immediately associate the Alsace or Périgord regions of France with walnuts, but the Romans introduced walnut trees to the Bliesgau area, where they are still plentiful, more than anywhere else in the Saarland region.
The trees are usually grown in fruit tree meadows or near towns and villages, offering people shadowy places to rest.
We have been receiving our walnuts from regional harvest to produce our exquisite walnut oil and then make walnut pasta from the delicious press cake, which gives them a slightly nutty taste.
In this way, we also contribute to the conservation of walnut trees in our local landscape. Every year, we organise the Bliesgau Walnut Festival at the time of the feast of St. John to celebrate this special nut and its many uses.
